South India's first metro rail "Bangalore Namma Metro" was flagged off to public by union minister Kamal Nath on 20/10/2011 at MG road station. The first service was from MG road to Bayappanahally terminal. Namma Metro was given a warm welcome by bthe public who gathered in numbers at MG road station. This was gifted to about 85 lakhs of bangaloreans as a Deepavali gift as promised by the chief minister Sadhananda Gowda.
The distance between MG road and Bayappanahally terminal is 6.7km and has a journey of 15 minutes. The expence of this 6.7km metro is 1540 crores and the cost of each station is around 30-40crores. The service starts from 6 am in the morning upto 10 pm and will be having one train at an interval of 10 minutes. The capacity of metro train is 1000 persons. The cost of one metro train is 30 crores. A part of this cost will be recollected in the form of advertisements by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited(BMRCL). BMRCL has already sold 10000 smart contactless travel cards which costs around 1000. BMRCL is eyeing to sale 2 lakhs cards in coming days. These card will be mainly utilised by the tourists. For the advertisement behind smart cards various companies have visited BMRCL for about 5 lakhs. 2.5 crores will be earned by BMRCL only through these advertisements.

Metro in bangalore will be having 41 stations in 4 Reach out of which 6 are now in service. The highlight of metro will be that it will be having 7 underground stations.Metro from all four directions will be having thier meeting point at Majestic. The manufactuing process was undertaken in 3 reaches. As now the route between MG road and Bayappanahally terminal will be extended further to Majestic via Chinnaswamy Stadium, Vidhan Soudha and Central college.
The second reach starts from Mysore road to Majestic via Deepanjali nagar, Vijayanagar, Hossahally,Tollgate,Magdhi road and City station, and the third reach from Soap factory, Mahalakshmi layout, Rajaji nagar, Kuvempunagar, Mallaeshwaram, Swasthik to Majestic.
The fully completed Metro will be a landmark to the Asia's fastest growing city 'BANGALORE' and the 75% of the city's traffic will be undercontrol.
